Hiring a mason in Ghana: block work and plastering checklist
Masonry is often the most expensive stage of building or extending a home in Ghana, and mistakes are costly to undo. Clear agreements on materials, labour, and quality checks matter more than the lowest quote.

Ask whether the quote covers labour only or also blocks, cement, sand, and water. If the mason buys materials, agree the quantities up front and ask for receipts.
Agree the standard of work
Confirm the block size, the mortar and plaster mix, and how walls will be kept straight and level. Ask how long concrete and plaster will be cured before the next stage.
Pay in stages
Break the job into stages, for example setting out, walls to lintel level, lintels, and plastering, and pay as each stage is finished and checked. Take dated photos at each stage.
